Italian ATMs

We just returned from a trip to Italy and wanted to warn other travelers of a possible difficulty. The automatic currency change machines did not recognize the new altered $50 bills (introduced last fall) that we had with us.

These were recognized by people in banks and other currency change sites--but as travelers to Italy know, those are apt to close at inconvenient hours, while the machines are available on Sundays and in the evenings. I recommend getting some of the older bills from your bank before traveling.
