* Novell Inc. named Dennis Raney chief financial officer, replacing James Tolonen, who resigned in March after 15 years at the networking software company. Raney, 55, was CFO at QAD Inc. before joining Novell in March to succeed Tolonen on an interim basis.
* Long John Silver’s Restaurants Inc., operator of 1,300 seafood and chicken fast-food restaurants, filed for protection from its creditors under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy laws.
* Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., the nation’s largest hospital company, said it reached agreements to sell home care operations in 11 states, not including California, for about $96 million.
