Fandemonium

We win. We lose. We cheer.

On the road to victory or defeat, we display our school spirit in various ways--some of us in costume. At Aliso Niguel High, there are mascots Wally and Wanda Wolverine. El Toro High has Barney and Barnice Bull, and Fullerton High rallies around Willy Ugh and Squall. Irvine High pairs the Mighty Vaquero with Lady Vaquero, and Sammy and Sally Saint lead the way at Santa Ana High.

Enough with the couples. What about solo artists, such as Lutheran High’s lone Lancer, who rides a fake horse? Or Newport Harbor High’s Popeye and Villa Park High’s Sparty? Rosary High boasts a Royalette with a crown, and San Clemente High has a King Triton. Laguna Beach High says spirit with Guna, a maroon gargoyle.

This year, Sonora High waves goodbye to Zapata, a Spanish warrior. But fear not, rah-rahers! Forever leading the enthusiasm parade is Peter Pacifica, a real-life member of Pacifica High’s first graduating class (1967), who legally changed his name from Gary Freeman. “He’s at every game,” said a school administrator. “We love him!”
