Railroad, County Settle Track Dispute

Union Pacific Railroad officials have agreed to a settlement with the Ventura County Transportation Commission over use of the company’s rail lines for Metrolink service to Los Angeles.
The county will pay more than $100,000 plus about $400,000 in maintenance fees per year for use of a 20-mile section of track owned by Union Pacific and serving Oxnard and Camarillo.
Monday’s agreement effectively ends months of disagreement that at one point threatened to interrupt Metrolink service used by rail commuters.
Under terms of the agreement, county officials will also work with state and federal officials to secure more than $400,000 to make improvements to the track.
