Jump-Roping Students Raise $8,600 for Heart Assn.

About 600 Marian Bergeson Elementary School students from kindergarten through fifth grade recently jumped rope for about an hour and collected $8,600 for the American Heart Assn.
“We were the top money fund-raiser here in south Orange County,” said second-grade teacher Bill Paine. But the group fell just short of its $10,000 goal.
The Jump Rope for Heart event included lessons for students and demonstrations to promote heart awareness.
Dr. Greg Thomas, a cardiologist with Mission Internal Medical Group, showed children how inventions such as a balloon angioplasty can prolong lives.
“I want to be a surgeon and do a bypass like the transportation corridor to go around all the blocked arteries,” fourth-grader K.C. Clarke said after Thomas’ demonstration.
