MATT ROGERS
YEAR: Junior
SCHOOL: Thousand Oaks
SPORT: Baseball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: The right-hander has emerged as one of the region’s best pitchers, although Lancer Coach Bill Sizemore believes Rogers already was in that category as a sophomore. “He was the best pitcher in the league last year and no one noticed,” Sizemore said. At 6 feet 2 and 175 pounds, Rogers (3-0) has the size to intimidate hitters as well as a repertoire of pitches to keep them off-balance. In 19 innings this season, he has allowed six hits, no runs, struck out 23 batters and walked three.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Rogers gave up one hit, struck out eight and walked one in five innings Friday in a 7-0 Marmonte League victory over Royal. Thousand Oaks leads the league with a 2-0 record after finishing seventh with a 3-11 record last season.
