Council Race to Be Decided Today

Downtown residents will again go to the polls today to decide a close race between City Council candidates Matthew Duggan and Shawn R. Boyd.
The winner will succeed Councilwoman Marilyn Bruce Hastings, who is leaving office after eight years because of term limits.
Duggan, a psychologist, outdistanced Boyd, a businessman, by 11 votes March 24 but failed to clear the state-mandated 50% plus one vote needed to win the election.
Duggan received about 45% of the vote; Boyd received 44% and a third candidate, Charles Antos, took the remaining 11%.
The two top vote-getters have engaged in a low-key campaign for Tuesday’s runoff election.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Only residents of Old Town and Surfside neighborhoods are eligible to vote.
City Clerk Joanne Yeo said 3,387 residents are eligible to vote in Tuesday’s runoff election.
