Pasadena 28, Hoover 0--Jason Young was held to 92 yards in 24 carries and lost two fumbles for the Tornadoes (0-6) in their Pacific League opener at Glendale High.
Young’s fumbles ended two of Hoover’s best scoring opportunities. He fumbled at the Pasadena 20 early in the second quarter and at the Bulldog 31 midway through the third quarter.
“They just put more guys on me [in the second half],” said Young, who gained only 13 yards after intermission. “But it was my fault for fumbling. I put the team in the hole.”
By that time, Pasadena (3-3) was already comfortably ahead, 21-0.
The Bulldogs took a 14-0 halftime lead, scoring on touchdown runs of 46 and 12 yards by Tyrone Burwell, who finished with 184 yards in 21 carries.
Pasadena sealed the victory early in the third quarter when Thomas Velasquez recovered a blocked punt and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.
Hoover was limited to 151 total yards.
