Three people died and a baby boy was injured Thursday when their compact car slammed into a tree in Sun Valley, authorities said.
The dead victims, two men and a woman, were killed on impact, authorities said. The 6-month-old child, strapped in a child’s seat, was lifted out of the wreckage, authorities said.
Paramedics took the child to Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, where he underwent surgery, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. His condition was not immediately available.
The identities of the victims and their relationship to each other were not immediately known.
The car hit the tree in the 8100 block of Glenoaks Boulevard near Lanark Street about 8:25 p.m., Humphrey said.
The woman was driving the car and the two men apparently were passengers, Humphrey said. Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to remove the victims, he said.
