Burbank High got a big taste of what might have been Thursday night, as quarterback Casey Clausen completed eight of 11 passes for 224 yards and five touchdowns--all in the first half--for visiting Alemany in a 68-6 romp over the Bulldogs at Burroughs High.
Clausen’s father, Jim Clausen, was briefly co-head coach at Burbank (1-1) with John Hazelton before the 1994 season.
The Bulldogs scored on their first play when running back Alan Gutierrez (15 carries, 180 yards) ran for 79 yards and a 6-0 lead with 11:36 to go in the first quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff, DeAndre Scott went 97 yards for a touchdown that led to 68 unanswered points over the next three quarters.
Scott also scored on a 77-yard pass play from Clausen and a 47-yard run. He finished with 92 yards in six carries and 266 all-purpose yards.
Clausen found Reggie Kinlaw on a eight-yard pass play late in the second quarter to give Alemany (2-0) a 54-6 halftime lead.
Starting with a six-yard pass play from Clausen to Deon Scott, and ending with a 44-yard pass play from Clausen to Joe Fama, the Indians scored on four consecutive plays.
