Suspect Denies Link to Bombings

A top lieutenant of Osama bin Laden who was arrested in Germany last week has acknowledged he knows the Saudi expatriate but denied he had any connection with the bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in August, German law enforcement officials said. The officials said they were anticipating a request from the United States to extradite Mamduh Mahmud Salim, 40, who carried a Sudanese passport and is suspected of being a leading figure in Bin Laden’s financial and terrorist operations. Salim has been indicted in New York under a sealed warrant.
