Local Power Plants Sent to Puerto Rico

The Navy Construction Battalion Center sent its last shipment of sailors and mobile power plants Monday to the hurricane-ravaged Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Puerto Rico.
Officials said the plants will help generate power on the base for housing and a hospital battered by Hurricane Georges.

Seabee base--A story Tuesday incorrectly reported the home base of one Seabee battalion deployed in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Georges. The battalion is based in Gulfport, Miss.
Eight Seabees are being sent as part of the effort.
Emergency power supplies have not been sufficient to operate the entire hospital, said Seabee Logistics Center spokesman James Riley.
Use of the six power plants and three accompanying substations will help the entire region, Riley said. They will ease pressure on local government to provide power to the base and allow the base to better provide medical services and food to civilians, he said.
A full Seabee battalion from Florida is providing aid on the island.
