The City Council last week unanimously approved final plans for a pedestrian tunnel to accompany two other tunnels running under the railroad tracks on Ridge Route Drive. Residents have long complained about the lack of a separate tunnel for foot traffic. The tunnels are now used by both cars and pedestrians. The 100-foot-long tunnel will be built 20 feet north of the existing tunnels. The project, expected to cost $400,000, was partially funded by a $100,000 grant from the Orange County Transportation Authority. It is expected to be completed in September.
