A San Fernando Valley man died after he got lost in Koreatown on the way to a wedding reception and was shot when he was mistaken for a gang member, police said Sunday.
The 20-year-old victim, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of relatives, was shot just after 9 p.m. Saturday at a stoplight at Mariposa Avenue and Pico Boulevard, according to L.A. police spokesman Jason Lee.
Two men, also believed to be in their 20s, pulled their black Toyota or Nissan truck alongside the victim’s car and yelled at him, asking if he was a gang member, Lee said.
In the next instant, the attackers fired five shots into the vehicle.
Authorities said the victim, who had no gang ties, was rushed to County USC Medical Center where he died.
