In the first concerted effort of the year to get inebriated motorists off the road, the Police Department conducted a four-hour sobriety checkpoint Friday night on Harbor Boulevard, north of Wilson Street.
From the 500 vehicles screened by officers from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., three motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, said Officer Eric Reinholtz of the Special Events Unit. Two vehicles were impounded and one driver was cited for violating the state’s open container law.
