UPS Profit Jumps 37% in Latest Quarter

United Parcel Service of America Inc. said its fourth-quarter earnings rose 37% to $482 million, or 86 cents a share, as it cut costs and benefited from low fuel prices. Closely held UPS, the world’s largest package delivery company, said revenue rose 8.5% to $6.66 billion. Atlanta-based UPS said it still hasn’t recovered all the business it lost during a strike by Teamsters in 1997, but hopes to do so this year.
