Air Quality Board Chairman Named

Alan C. Lloyd, an air pollution scientist who has been honored by environmentalists, was appointed Thursday by Gov. Gray Davis as the chairman of the state Air Resources Board, the agency that sets California’s air quality rules. Lloyd, 57, is now the executive director of the Desert Research Institute for the Nevada State University system. He served as chief scientist for California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District from 1988 to 1996. Lloyd’s position, which requires Senate confirmation, pays $101,211 annually.
