Marissa Young pitched a one-hitter and Mater Dei defeated Thousand Oaks, 4-0, Tuesday in the Southern Section Division I semifinals. Mater Dei (28-4), advancing to the final for the third time in four years, will play Moreno Valley Valley View this weekend at Lakewood.
Mater Dei did all of its damage in the third, bunching four of its six hits.
With one out, consecutive singles by Young, Christina Clark and Courtney Betley produced an earned run off Sheridan Fowler (11-6).
Ruby Rojas walked, and Jessica Young was safe at first base when she hit a grounder, but the first baseman came off the bag when catching the throw. Jessica Gonzalez followed with a two-run single for a 3-0 lead. Jessica Young scored one pitch later on a double steal attempt when Michelle Spencer dropped a throw to the plate by shortstop Lacey Cope.
