Passersby Alert Residents to Fire
A Friday night fire at a Germain Street residence could have been more serious had two passersby not noticed the flames, called 911 from a cell phone and knocked on the door at the home, fire officials said.
Ventura County Fire Department investigators believe a faulty electrical fixture in a bathroom caused the blaze, resulting in $10,000 in damage to the $300,000 structure and destroying $10,000 in contents.
The residents were asleep when two people, driving along the 3400 block of Germain about 10:20 p.m., saw flames coming from the attic and roof.
Firefighters arrived within five minutes and had the blaze contained in 10 minutes.
There were no injuries.
