The city will improve its Internet access and e-mail service, as well as tie City Hall and the Police Department together over computer lines, under a contract with a Philadelphia cable company. The deal with Comcast Commercial Online allows the city to have up to 75 employee workstations with high-speed Internet access; currently there are 13 slower workstations. The two-year contract will cost the city $800 a month--up from its current rate of $729 a month, but the company is waiving a $7,000 installation fee to set up two computer servers and will install security software in both servers at no charge.
