VENTURA COUNTY NEWS : Ventura Officers to Issue ‘Sweet Citations’ to Children

The sweet police will be out in force in Ventura next week, authorities said Friday.
Tuesday marks the start of the Ventura Police Department’s annual Sweet Citation Program, during which officers give certificates for free ice cream to children who follow the law while walking, skateboarding or bicycling.
“The program starts in concert with the beginning of school, when there is a sharp increase in bicyclists and pedestrians on the roadway,” said Cindy Turner of the Ventura Police Wives and Associates organization.
In addition a complimentary cone from Baskin-Robbins, the parents of a child who is rewarded will receive a congratulatory letter from Police Chief Mike Tracy.
The program is held to encourage traffic safety and allow for positive contacts between officers and youths.
