A Galaxy victory puts an almost insurmountable eight points between it and the second-place Rapids in the Western Conference. The closer race may be for the Supporters Shield, awarded to the team with the most points at the end of the regular season. The Galaxy is five points behind league-leader D.C. United, which has four games remaining and plays the Galaxy on Sept. 25 at the Rose Bowl. Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman is closing in on the MLS single-season record for lowest goals-against average. Hartman has a 0.82 GAA. The record is 1.17 set by Chicago’s Zach Thornton last season.
