The City Council rejected a measure last week that would have allowed placement of a 45-foot-high neon sign alongside the Santa Ana Freeway. The applicant, Raphael Pazo Jr., manager of Melrose Abbey Funeral Home & Memorial Park on South Manchester Avenue, told the council that elevation of the freeway has obstructed viewing of their current 30-foot sign. He said a sign was needed to help direct visitors to the site.
Council members said they wanted to formulate a comprehensive policy for all signs alongside the freeway before approval.
