* Pitching matchups: Jeff Williams (0-0, 4.50 ERA) vs. Kirk Rueter (14-8, 5.12) tonight, Ismael Valdes (9-14, 4.01) vs. Joe Nathan (7-3, 3.95) Wednesday, Chan Ho Park (11-10, 5.54) vs. Livan Hernandez (7-11, 4.71) Thursday.
* Last series: Barry Bonds hit four home runs in less than 18 hours in the first two games of the series in early July. The Giants ripped four homers in the first game off Carlos Perez, two of them by Bonds, and the Giants won, 6-3. The Giants won the second game, 9-1, then the Dodgers ended their six-game losing streak in the third game, 7-1.
* A look at the Giants: The Giants have five players with 20 or more homers with Bonds leading the way. Russ Ortiz, Rueter and Shawn Estes have been solid on the mound, with Ortiz the big surprise in his first full season in the majors.
FRIDAY-SUNDAY
VS. SAN DIEGO
* Schedule: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday.

* Last series: The Padres swept the Dodgers for the second time in two weeks. San Diego won the first game, 4-3, on Damian Jackson’s RBI single in the 12th inning. The Padres overwhelmed Kevin Brown in the second game with Reggie Sanders’ three-run homer helping San Diego to an 11-2 victory. The Padres’ 6-3 victory in the third game was their 13th in a row.
* A look at the Padres: Former Cal State Fullerton standout Phil Nevin continues to hold on to the starting third base job.
