Scouts’ Principles
The L.A. City Council’s decision to sever ties with the Boy Scouts (Nov. 29) is an interesting commentary on our society. Scouting is a principle-centered organization. Its principles include such things as loyalty to God and country, a devotion to family and concern for the environment--unaltered since Scouting began.
The City Council sends a powerful message to our youth that if you believe in a core principle and someone decides to disagree with it, you should abandon that principle immediately. Our principles are the root of our integrity. When the L.A. City Council abandons principle-centered organizations like the Boy Scouts, what does that say about its integrity?
