A 9-year-old girl drowned Sunday evening in the pool of a Best Western hotel in Anaheim.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Lee Smith said the girl had been swimming with an adult. She was staying at the motel with her aunt and uncle, Anaheim fire officials said.
The adult left for a few minutes to return to the room at Best Western Pavilions on Katella Avenue, Smith said.
The girl was reportedly unnoticed in the pool for two to five minutes when a bystander saw her and pulled her out at 9:04 p.m., according to fire officials. A nurse near the scene performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Officers also administered CPR and then took her to West Anaheim Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m. The girl’s parents live in the Los Angeles area.
