The City Council took its first action as a Planning Agency last week, unanimously approving a major expansion of Town Center on Santa Margarita Parkway and El Paseo.
The plan, which was submitted by the property owner, Rancho Santa Margarita Joint Venture, calls for the construction of a new movie theater with 2,800 seats, seven new restaurants with a total of 40,900 square feet and nine retail buildings with a combined square footage of 37,100 feet. The owner also plans to build a 25,000-square-foot retail building for a single large retail store.
Council members approved the project with the condition that they would have to approve the final landscaping plans and a number of other design details before construction could begin.
