Eslava and Kim Rally at Key Time for Glendale

Edwin Eslava and Andy Kim of Glendale High rallied to beat Campbell Hall’s Josh Snyder and Brian Ankrum, 7-5, in the last set of the nonleague boys’ tennis match, giving the Dynamiters a 75-68 victory in games Friday at Glendale. The teams tied, 9-9, in sets.
Eslava and Kim, Glendale’s No. 2 doubles team, trailed Snyder and Ankrum, 5-4.
In a match between two of the top singles players in the region, Glendale freshman Robert Yim defeated Adam Zunder, 6-2. Yim is ranked No. 22 in Southern California in boys’ 16 division by the U.S. Tennis Assn.; Zunder is No. 22 in Southern California in boys’ 18 division.
Ross Erlich and Michael Shrage swept three sets at No. 1 doubles for Campbell Hall (1-1), the No. 3-ranked team in the Southern Section Division V preseason poll.
In another boys’ tennis match:
Harvard-Westlake 14, Calabasas 4--John Lee and Allen Haldeman swept at No. 1 doubles for Harvard-Westlake in a nonleague victory at Studio City Golf and Tennis.
The Wolverines (1-1), the top-ranked team in the Southern Section Division II, lost to Peninsula, 10-8, in their season opener Thursday.
Harvard-Westlake got two wins each from singles players Andrew Rosenfeld, David Frankel and Steve Gersh.
Nick Weiss, runner-up in the Southern Section individual tournament last season, swept three sets for Calabasas (0-1), the No. 4-ranked team in Division IV.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Van Nuys def. Eagle Rock, 13-15, 15-6, 15-7, 15-5--Wylie Chung had a .571 hitting percentage and Junho Kim had a .550 hitting percentage for the Wolves (1-0) in a nonleague victory at Van Nuys.
Chung had 20 kills and four errors in 28 attempts, and Kim had 15 kills.
Marina d. Harvard Westlake, 15-5, 15-3, 15-4--Jeff Wootton had 12 kills for host Marina (1-0) in a nonleague match.
La Canada d. St. Francis, 14-16, 15-13, 15-5, 16-14--Timmy Lee and James Pickett had five kills each in the fourth game for visiting La Canada.
Simi Valley d. Glendale, 15-7, 15-3, 14-16, 15-8--Jon Moreno had four blocks in a row in the fourth game for Simi Valley (2-0).
BOYS’ GOLF
North Hollywood 205, Cleveland 211--Matt Ansis shot three-over-par 39 for the Huskies (3-0) in a City 4-A League match at Woodley Lakes Golf Course.
GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Flintridge Sacred Heart 99, Pasadena Poly 74--Kimmy Evanilla swam the 200 free in 2:03.82 and the 500 free in 5:27.72 for Flintridge Sacred Heart at Cal Tech.
GIRLS’ SOFTBALL
Providence 17, Bell-Jeff 0--Jessica Franco had 10 strikeouts, two doubles and a home run for host Providence in a nonleague game that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Verdugo Hills 15, L.A. Marshall 3--Crystal Dingman hit a three-run home run in the first inning, a solo shot in the fourth and finished with four hits and six RBIs for Verdugo Hills in a nonleague game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
