The Division II final matches the second-place teams from the county’s top two leagues, the Sunset and Serra. Fourth-seeded Mater Dei has been the more impressive team in the playoffs. The Monarchs, who won Division II titles in 1994 and ‘97, are coming off a 4-1 victory over Riverside Poly, the country’s top-ranked team, according to the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America. Balanced scoring--Kevin Novak (20 goals), Matt Fennell (19) and Ruben Rosales (19)--has been Mater Dei’s strength. Edison will need big games from junior goalkeeper Joey Balbas and Danny Collins, who has been explosive in the playoffs.
