Family of Dead Man Files Suit Against Garden Grove

The family of a man who died in the custody of the Garden Grove Police Department has sued the city for at least $75,000.
Lenee Sadamitsu, the man’s wife, and Stephanie, their daughter, filed the suit in Orange County Superior Court this week in the death of Darrell Sadamitsu, who, according the lawsuit, died in police custody on Dec. 27.
During a brief incarceration, the wrongful-death lawsuit alleges, Darrell Sadamitsu “suffered grievous bodily harm . . . and died” despite evidencing “serious medical needs so obvious that even a lay person would easily recognize the necessity of prompt medical care.”
Capt. David Abrecht, a spokesman for the Police Department, said it is against department policy to comment on pending lawsuits.
“We will be working with our attorneys to defend the case,” he said.
