Cervenka Shuts Down Sultana

Meredith Cervenka pitched a two-hitter and Crescenta Valley High defeated Sultana, 1-0, Friday in the first round of the Highland tournament at Lancaster City Park.
Cervenka (9-0) struck out 14 and walked none for the Falcons, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times.
Jessica Crownover hit a run-scoring single with two out in the third inning for Crescenta Valley (9-0).
In other Highland tournament games:
Glendale 5, Chatsworth 1--Heather Hamasaki scattered six hits, allowed no earned runs and collected two hits for Glendale (4-3).
Valencia 2, Louisville 0--Freshman Tori Rocco (3-0) struck out eight and recorded her third shutout for the Vikings (7-2).
Jessica Roberts and Michelle Malbon each drove in one run for Valencia.
Antelope Valley 2, Costa Mesa 1--Amanda Mathias pitched a three-hitter for Antelope Valley (2-5).
Mathias had eight strikeouts and Maili Roth had two hits and one run batted in.
Lancaster 2, Ridgecrest Burroughs 1--Briana Laux hit a two-run double with two out in the fourth for Lancaster (6-5).
Harvard-Westlake 10, Alemany 3--Ronnie Brooks had three hits, including a double and a triple, and one RBI for Harvard-Westlake (7-1).
Abby Krall had two hits and two RBIs for the Wolverines.
In other games:
San Fernando 6, North Hollywood 0--Gabriella Barragan pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks for the Tigers (11-2) in a nonleague victory at North Hollywood (2-7).
Lorena Arreguin had three hits and three RBIs for San Fernando.
Granada Hills 4, Narbonne 3--Melissa Lugo scored from second base on a bunt by Sheila Mullalley in the eighth inning to give the Highlanders (4-8-1) a nonleague victory at Granada Hills.
Mullalley had two RBIs and Priscilla Vaca added one RBI.
Marisa Hernandez hit a home run and drove in two runs for Narbonne (7-2).
La Canada 7, San Marino 0--Kelly Kalish pitched her third consecutive one-hitter for the Spartans in a Rio Hondo League victory at San Marino.
Kalish (4-4) had 15 strikeouts and did not allow a runner past first base.
Calabasas 11, Nordhoff 0--Amy Rosson surrendered three hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in five innings and Heather Bell had a home run and three RBIs for visiting Calabasas (7-3, 3-0) in a Frontier League game.
Carly Weinstein had two RBIs for the Coyotes.
Ventura 11, Santa Barbara 3--Cassie Nicoletto had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for host Ventura (3-5, 2-1) in a Channel League game.
