Elton Gallegly on Elian

Re “Congressmen Differ on Seizure of Elian,” April 25.
Rep. Elton Gallegly’s (R-Simi Valley) condemnation of the mission to reunite little Elian Gonzales with his father is utterly ridiculous when you take into account Gallegly’s own record.
We remember well the news photos of Gallegly’s participation in early-morning immigration service raids in Simi Valley a few years ago. Gallegly did not seem to mind those tactics when they were designed to evict sleeping Mexican families with young children from their homes.
The same Rep. Gallegly who voted against a ban on assault weapons is suddenly concerned that law enforcement officers use such weapons when going into a potentially dangerous situation. Does our congressman think we don’t remember? Is he counting on the fact that we won’t remember that he is up for reelection this year?
Hypocrisy, thy name is Gallegly.
