BELL GARDENS — A renowned marine artist will join Bell Gardens elementary school students today to paint a 384-square-foot mural in their school cafeteria.
The artist known as Wyland, whose sea life murals have adorned walls from Mexico to Japan, will lead fourth-graders at Bell Gardens Elementary School in painting the mural.
The paint and material for the project is being donated by Dunn-Edwards Corp., the Los Angeles-based maker and retailer of paint and related products.
A group of students at the school met Wyland last year after they won first place in Wyland’s Ocean Challenge of America, a national art contest. Wyland--whose murals include the massive, 116,000-square-foot ocean life scene at the Long Beach Arena--has painted more than 70 murals and is hoping to complete 100 by 2011.
