A tour bus ran off a wet highway into a drainage ditch, injuring the driver and all 18 Japanese tourists aboard who were on their way to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, police said.
The 24-seat bus belonging to Jack’s Tours had swerved to avoid a car on Volcano Highway, Lt. James Kelly said.
The victims suffered bruises and cuts, and some had serious head injuries, Kelly said. The 29-year-old driver, whose name was not released, had to be extracted from behind the wheel with rescue equipment, Kelly said.
The 26-year-old woman driving the car wasn’t injured.
