A Seal Beach couple were hospitalized Tuesday after a murder-suicide attempt in which the husband tried to kill the wife with a hammer and slit his own throat, police said.
Ann Boquet, 88, was treated for head wounds and released from Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, investigators said.
Andrew Boquet, 84, who was in stable condition at the same hospital, could face charges of attempted murder or spousal abuse when he is released, Seal Beach Police Sgt. Rick Ransdell said.
Officers were called to the couple’s home on St. Andrews Drive in Leisure World about 8:10 a.m. after a neighbor heard screams.
Police and neighbors said Andrew Boquet, a former bus driver in the senior complex, had prostate cancer and was taking a new medication that made him dizzy at times.
Dick Kunz, 75, who has lived across the street from the couple for 10 years, said: “They were really happy and inseparable. Even at the trash bin, they were always together. The medication really made him flip.”
