Senate Backs Creation of 5 Federal Judgeships

The U.S. Senate has approved the creation of five federal judgeships in San Diego, home to one of the nation’s busiest courts. But the legislation must still be approved by the House of Representatives.
A law enforcement crackdown along the U.S.-Mexico border has yielded a caseload swollen with immigration and drug cases. San Diego’s eight district judges shoulder the heaviest individual caseloads in the nation.
