New Voices Playwrights Workshop suddenly canceled its first full-length play, “Carnivals of Desire,” Wednesday after a dispute between the playwrights group and its new landlord, the DePietro Performance Center in Santa Ana.
New Voices had planned to mount a full season at the DePietro, but will now look for another venue.
Cherie Kerr, the DePietro Center’s owner, could not be reached Wednesday.
Kerr was unhappy with the stage lighting New Voices had installed, and it became apparent that New Voices’ relationship with her had deteriorated beyond repair, said group president Michael Buss.
