A 39-year-old man was found dead in his Mission Viejo home Saturday and a 74-year-old man who had a fight with him earlier in the week is being questioned as a suspect in his death, police said.
The 74-year-old man got into a fistfight Tuesday night with the victim, Steven Linscott Hammett, police said. Hammett was treated and released from Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo on Tuesday, police said.
Hammett had “very obvious signs of trauma” to the upper torso and bruises on his face, police said. But the cause of death will not be known until after an autopsy is performed today.
Hammett’s mother, with whom he lived, found the body Saturday morning. The neighbor was being questioned at his home late Saturday.
