James Approved as Antitrust Chief

The Senate, after weeks of delays, unanimously approved President Bush’s nomination of Washington attorney Charles James as head of the Justice Department’s antitrust division.

James’ nomination had been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 10. But the committee’s chairman, Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, and other Democrats had balked at James’ nomination, citing unspecified, confidential concerns.

James was a senior official in the Justice Department when Bush’s father was president.
