Cable Firm Recognizes Five Students, Teacher

Media company Cox Communications selected five Orange County high school students for college scholarships Friday and named its teacher of the year, officials said.
The students, from schools across the county, received $1,000. The winners are Robert Bisson of Laguna Hills High School; Palmer Gibbs of Mission Viejo High School; Stephanie Grodin of University High School, Irvine; Chris Hermanas of Capistrano Valley High School, Mission Viejo; and Lauren Specter of Irvine High School.
Cynthia Barnhart, a ninth-grade Earth Science teacher at El Toro High School, Lake Forest, was named teacher of the year.
