Bomb Threat Closes 14 Banks

PALM SPRINGS — A telephoned threat forced Bank of America to temporarily close 14 branches in the Coachella Valley on Thursday, a bank spokesman said.
The banks were closed about 11 a.m. after the threat to a customer service number, company spokesman Harvey Radin said from the bank’s San Francisco headquarters.
“The nature of the threat was not specific. We thought it was the prudent, necessary step to assure the safety of customers and employees,” Radin said.
Law enforcement agencies were contacted and by 2 p.m. the branches started reopening, with the last of the 14 banks reopening at 4:10 p.m., the bank spokesman said.
