In Southern Section swimming:
Brea Olinda girls win in Division IV--The Wildcats rode an early victory in the 200-yard medley relay to a championship at the Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.
Brea’s Jackie Palmero, Lisa McKinley, Sarah Batchelor and Caroline Manning won the first event of the afternoon, out-dueling the team from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame for first place in a meet-record time of 1 minute 55.87 seconds.
Brea’s 400-yard freestyle relay team, which had the top qualifying time, faded to finish third in the final event of the day, but the Wildcats had already built an insurmountable lead over runner-up Etiwanda.
Division IV is new this season and only a handful of county teams competed. Valencia, which finished eighth, had Jennifer Cook win the girls’ 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.33.
Cerritos won the boys’ title. Valencia was seventh.
