Here’s a sampling of Orange County’s events that celebrate those in the armed forces:
* Veterans Day celebration (St. Catherine’s Military School, 215 N. Harbor Blvd., Anaheim, [714] 772-1363). More than 150 cadets (K-8th) in full dress greens honor America’s retired and active duty armed forces. 11:15 a.m. Friday. Free.
* “Peleliu Project” (Golden West College Fine Art Gallery, 15744 Goldenwest St., Huntington Beach, [714] 895-8356). Photographs by James Fee and his father, Russell, who was a veteran of the 1944 battle of Peleliu, one of the toughest to be fought in the Pacific. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Through Friday. Free.
* Veterans Day celebration and Scholarship Program (Santa Ana College, Bristol and 17th streets, [714] 954-0233). A tribute to Mexican American veterans of World War II. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Free.
* Air Force National Guard Band (Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace, 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd., Yorba Linda, [714] 993-3393). 1 p.m. Sunday. Free.
* Veterans Day Ceremony (Pier Plaza, Huntington Beach, [714] 536-5486). The city will display American flags on the Huntington Beach Municipal Pier and adjacent Pier Plaza. 1 p.m. Sunday. Free.
* “Military Posters of World War II” (Nottingham Art Gallery, 4229 Birch St., Newport Beach, [949] 833-1770). More than 40 American, British and Canadian posters. Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturdays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Through Dec. 24. Free.
