San Clemente def. Poway, 15-2, 15-13, 15-12--The Tritons kept their postseason record perfect and have not lost a game in five Division II playoff matches.
San Clemente (33-3) swept Lake Forest El Toro on Saturday to win its first Southern Section title, then rallied from a 12-8 deficit in the third game against Poway (21-7) to clinch its first state playoff victory.
“It’s the focus,” said San Clemente Coach Rob O’Rear. “I reminded them what happened when we went to Buchanan last year.”
The Tritons lost to Clovis Buchanan in the first round of the state playoffs last season, but get a rematch Saturday at Buchanan.
San Clemente had 16 aces against Poway, including five each by Katy Daly and Krissy Blagof. Daly also had 15 kills to lead the Tritons.
