Bausch & Lomb Inc. said the Food and Drug Administration extended the length of time users can wear the company’s PureVision soft contact lenses to as long as 30 days.
The PureVision product was approved in 1999 for as long as one week of continuous use, the Rochester, N.Y.-based company said. About 13 million people in the U.S. are eligible to wear the contact lenses, the company said.
The lenses are made from balafilcon A, a silicone hydrogel material patented by Bausch & Lomb.
Bausch & Lomb shares rose 75 cents to $33.08 on the NYSE.
