Life-Term Risk a Hurdle to Extraditions to U.S.

Mexico’s Supreme Court ruled that the government cannot extradite to the U.S. any criminal suspects who might be sentenced to life in prison.
The ruling could affect several pending extraditions of suspected drug traffickers and alleged killers.
The Mexican high court ruled that the government could agree to extraditions only in cases where the maximum punishment would not exceed that allowed in Mexico, which is 60 years.
