Tax Abundance

So the Hollywood left is pushing for higher taxes on the wealthy--for now--but eventually on everyone with a job above minimum wage (“Wealthy Residents Urge Higher Taxes on Rich,” Aug. 8). Why is this news?
Is there some reason that actor Ed Asner and the rest of the Hollywood left cannot voluntarily pay high taxes? They could forgo all of their deductions. If Asner really wants to tax the rich, why does he not propose a wealth tax--say, 1% of your net worth over $1 million, including your home? That way only “millionaires,” by definition, would be taxed.
