EBay Inc., the largest Internet auctioneer, and Priceline.com Inc., the third-largest Web travel seller, said they would collaborate for online sales of airline tickets, hotel stays and car rentals.
Priceline.com will provide travel products, computer infrastructure and transaction processing for a new booking service through EBay’s travel site. Shoppers purchasing travel through the EBay travel page will be able to do so by either a “name your own price” system or through a “buy it now” feature.
The service is expected to start in two months. Priceline.com will continue to offer its own services.
Shares of Norwalk, Conn.-based Priceline.com rose 2 cents to $6.32, and shares of San Jose-based EBay fell 97 cents to $58.05, both on Nasdaq.
