That 16-6 Record Goes Only So Far

Will someone please explain the UCLA offense in the final seven minutes against USC? Can you really call a system where everybody runs around in circles 25 feet from the basket and then puts up desperation shots an offense? If not for Matt Barnes’ and Billy Knight’s buzzer beaters, they would have lost. Or as Lavin said in a postgame interview, “Our players made up for my coaching.” Amen.

The last statement in the recap of UCLA’s humiliating loss at Oregon last week said it all.

Matt Barnes said the team is not where it needs to be in terms of offense, defense, intensity or team camaraderie.

There isn’t enough gel in Steve Lavin’s hair to seal the cracks.

He has always pulled out the miracles in the most adverse situations. Now, however, he may have truly lost this team. I would be willing to forget how ugly the team looked in those stupid dark blue uniforms if they didn’t look so disorganized and ugly in their play also. The clock is ticking yet again for Steve Lavin.

I’m tired of the same old excuses from Coach (used loosely) Lavin.

I turned on the TV to see Oregon ahead by 30 points, I had to blink my eyes. But then again, I should have expected it.

I’m tired of all the excuses. Where is the coaching on this team? I’ve never seen players so underdeveloped over a period of time. (Gadzuric, etc.)

Let’s hire a real coach and Lavin can be an assistant coach to help with recruiting.

As I watched the Bruins quickly fall behind by double digits to Oregon, I sighed. If they are to play more like a playground team, perhaps Mr. Dalis should direct that the hardwood be torn up, sold to raise funds for Steve Lavin’s rollover account, and then have Pauley paved with asphalt.
