Poland’s ‘Batman’ Should Get the Call

Adam Malysz, the “Polish Batman,” is the clear favorite after finishing first in qualifying on the 120-meter hill Tuesday in front of 19,200 spectators, including former Polish President Lech Walesa.

But the Germans are optimistic about the chances of Sven Hannawald, who has been a sensation on the World Cup circuit this season.

The United States hasn’t won a ski jumping medal since 1928 and probably won’t this year, but Alan Alborn is an up-and-coming jumper from Anchorage, Alaska, who finished eighth in qualifying.
